Marilyn Rummel - composer, arranger, publisher
Harp Start & Demand Music
Marilyn lives and works on Vancouver Island, off the west coast of Canada. Since moving here from the Cariboo she has established herself as a teacher and performer and as the autohor and publisher of 3 books in the Harp Start series and a growing list of sheet music titles under the Demand Music label.
Harp Start Bk 1 is just what it sounds like - a way to start harp from your very first touch of the string. I uses both original and traditional tunes to build the foundation of great technique and musicianship. Book 1, now with more than 15 years of students behind it, has taken on a new incarnation with this website. It has become a full course of study, with nearly 100 videos to explain, demonstrate and elaborate on the music!
Harp Start Bk 2 continues with more advanced material and techniques. Harp Start Songbook is a set of supplemental material for Bk 1 - solos for your first year of playing. And if you are using a different method to get started, you'll appreciate the new material inside.
Marilyn's harp teaching and love of playing together was responsible for the formation of 3 fine harp ensembles on the island. To find interesting and useful material for the she began to arrange for larger groups. All the Demand Music ensemble titles had this beginning, and the rehearsal-tested nature of the finished product will be of benefit to your groups as well. Demand music titles also include individual sheets for many solos and duets at all levels from beginner to advanced.
Marilyn's performing life has been of less importance in her career, but now is increasing in focus - or was, until the pandemic took away such opportunities. Occasional new bits may be previewed as part of the Salons - come and join us there!
Curious about the harps pictured in this website? The first one is an antique from the Musee Carnivalee collection in Paris, France. There is is lovely reproduction of a wire harp on the contact page and the rest are photos of Josephus Harps.
